Ashin Ottama was ordained in 1992 in Burma (now Myanmar), but he began his intensive Dhamma practice 20 years earlier in the Swiss Alps. Those months spent in a mountain hut were the most dramatic and difficult period of his life, but also the period from which he derived the greatest spiritual benefit. Later he practiced under the guidance of many Western teachers and Asian Dhamma masters. In 1996 he returned to Europe as a Buddhist monk and began to teach and propagate the Dhamma with the guidance of his teachers. In 2010 he was awarded the religious title of “Mahā Saddhama Jotikadhaya” for his Dhamma-duta activities.
Ashin Ottama presents and explains the central points of the Buddha’s Teaching in a very vivid and contemporary manner so that the people of the present time are fully addressed and inspired by the unsuspected depth of the ancient wisdom.
Ashin Ottama’s meditation courses are not conducted “strictly”, but rather “fully”: full adherence to the daily programme and full respect for “noble silence” are envisaged; however, participants basically determine the intensity of their own practice.
